Dear Parents and Prospective Students,

St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf (SFDS) offers a complete academic program for deaf and hard of hearing students from Preschool through Upper School (8th grade). Students enroll in the school as young as three (3) years of age and may remain at SFDS until they are fourteen (14). To qualify, children need to be diagnosed with a severe to profound hearing loss(80 dB for school age) or other audiological/neurological impairment for which their ability to process speech is impaired.

If you have a child between the ages of birth to 5 years and are interested in educational services at SFDS please contact our school directly at 718-636-4573 (voice) or 347-227-0891 (videophone) or contact the PPS Coordinator/Supervisor Beverly Rogers at

If your child is ready to enter Kindergarten or is age 6 and older an application process will need to be initiated.

  • You filling out several forms:
  1. SFDS Application Form,
  2. Case History Form
  3. Release for Exchange of Educational Form
  4. Medical Information Form.

  • We can schedule an admissions screening which may include:
  1. Audiological testing
  2. Psycho-educational testing for your child.

  • The Admissions Review Team will go over all of the documents and make a recommendation regarding the best educational placement for your child.

If your child is admitted to SFDS, he/she will be attending a school that is committed to the academic development of all of our students. In a diverse, multimodal environment, we help each student to achieve personal excellence and become responsible lifelong learners. We accomplish this through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, where teachers and support staff strive to develop and implement an educational program designed to promote and develop every student’s educational needs.

If you are interested in having a tour to see the educational programs on the SFDS building, please contact our school directly or via email at

On behalf of SFDS, we thank you for your interest in our school. If you have any questions about our admissions process, please feel free to contact the Pupil Personnel Coordinator at
